INTRODUCTION This Digi software package includes all libraries and software required to support SNMP monitoring of the Digi International family of PortServer Devices. It also features device discovery and IP assignment utilizing Digi's ADDP (Advanced Device Discovery Protocol) On the various supported UNIX's, this package requires that an X-Windows environment be installed in order to run. On all systems, this package requires that a browser be installed to display help. ENHANCEMENTS o Added IP assignment to the ADDP protocol for devices with a 0.0.0.0 IP address o Reduced the size of the package by removing unnecessary files o Newly discovered devices are updated in place instead of add- ing duplicate entries to the list o The list of discovered devices is now sortable by pressing the column headings 4. BUG FIXES o Disabled the pre-caching of MIBs which was causing errors when Digi MIBs were updated or added o Graphs and poll interval now update when pressing "Apply" o Corrected some product names as displayed in the list of dis- covered devices o PPP connections are no longer displayed as a Network Interface. Relevant information can still be gathered by monitoring the port where the PPP connection is coming in. 5. KNOWN LIMITATIONS o Online help is only one page of general information o Name resoving on Windows is sluggish. Users can turn off the name resolver via the options dialog. o ADDP may be disabled on operating systems other than Windows and Linux-intel. Check support.digi.com for updated versions of Digi Port Authority - Remote that include ADDP for your OS. 6. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, General o The Digi Port Authority - Remote package can be downloaded from the Digi ftp site. Refer to the Part Number Table in Section 1 of these Release Notes for the Part Number used for each operating system. 7. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The Digi Port Authority - Remote package is installed by doing the following: Place the distribution file in the /tmp directory. If digidpar is already install on the host machine, remove it by doing a installp -u digidpar.dpar.obj then uncompress 40002192_.installp.Z installp -ad /tmp/40002192_.installp digidpar Note that the Digi part number revision WILL NOT MATCH package versioning. The package is installed on the target machines as "digidpar.dpar.obj". o Digi Port Authority - Remote (dparemote) is installed in /opt/dg and includes a man page for dparemote. Detailed help is available within the dparemote GUI and support.digi.com 8.
