RELEASE NOTES FOR DOUBLEVIEW and DOUBLEVIEW MANUAL -------------------------------------------------- October 30, 1990 for manual# DBI 91000021D ("Rev D") GENERAL * The WYSE60 emulation is a subset of the WYSE60 Native Mode. * The current version of DoubleVIEW does not support the downloading of function key definitions. If you have screen or formatting problems with an application that uses its own TERMCAP entry, compare it with the entry in /etc/termcap (or with /usr/lib/info for some systems) and make sure that they are alike. If you have further problems, contact the application vendor's technical support. Example: SCO XENIX WORDPERFECT 5.0 WordPerfect 5.0 for SCO XENIX can be run successfully from a DoubleVIEW terminal emulating the SCO Console. In order to do this, the "scocons" or "scoconscol" .TRS file needs to be modified using the WPTERM utility. Please contact WordPerfect for the exact terminal initialization string DCOPY * The auto file typing ASCII or the /A switch will not send letters from the IBM extended character set (above ASCII 128). If you need to do so, DCOPY the file as binary, using the /B switch. Then use the UNIX program TR to convert the DOS carriage return/linefeed combinations to Newlines. If transferring a UNIX extended character file to DOS, use TR (UNIX) to convert the Newlines to CR/LF, then DCOPY the file to DOS as binary using the /B switch. Alternately, the translations can be done on the DOS side, with the DigiBoard program TR.EXE (in the MISC directory). Using DoubleVIEW and DCOPY with Windows 3.0 DoubleVIEW and DCOPY are DOS programs, but can be used under Windows 3.0. If you are running Windows 3.0 in Enhanced 386 mode, DCOPY can even transfer files in the background while you are working on other tasks. (Windows 3.0 Real and Standard modes allow task switching, but not multi-tasking.) Because DoubleVIEW is a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program, and DCOPY requires the resident portion of DoubleVIEW to operate, some special steps are required to install and use them effectively under Windows. * Always run DoubleVIEW before starting Windows. This will install the TSR portion of DoubleVIEW. * To access DoubleVIEW from Windows, you can double-click on the DOS prompt, and then press the DoubleVIEW Alt-V hotkey combination to get into DoubleVIEW. As a handier alternative, a program named DBV_ALTV.EXE is included on your DoubleVIEW disk. You can double- click on this icon from Windows, and the DoubleVIEW screen will appear automatically. (DBV_ALTV.EXE "types" place the Alt-V keystroke in the keyboard buffer for you.) When you hot-key out of DoubleVIEW, you will return to the Windows Program Manager. Also see "Installing for Windows" below. * DCOPY requires parameters like the DOS COPY command. When you click on the DCOPY icon, Windows will first ask for these command-line parameters. As a DOS example, a simple DCOPY command to copy the file TEMP.TXT from the default DOS directory to the default UNIX directory would appear as: DCOPY C:TEMP.TXT U: When Windows asks for command line parameters when you run DCOPY, just type in the C:TEMP.TXT U: part of the above. (In other words, don't type "DCOPY.") The DCOPY PIF file is set up so that DCOPY runs in a resizable window. Once DCOPY is running and trans- ferring your file(s), you can re-size the window (to watch it work while you go on to other applications). You can leave DCOPY running in the background by pressing CTRL-ESC. When the DCOPY icon disappears from the bottom of your Program Manager screen, the file transfer is complete! (Again, background use of DCOPY will only work in Windows 3.0 386 Enhanced Mode.) INSTALLING FOR WINDOWS Installing DBV_ALTV.EXE 1. If you haven't done so already, install DoubleVIEW according to the instructions in the DoubleVIEW manual. 2. Run DoubleVIEW, then run Windows.
