Instructions:
1) Download & install FlashWriter
2) Obtain the latest firmware/configuration zip file, which can be found at one of the following links depending on your model:
[ Digi TransPort ]
[ Sarian branded ]
It is of the utmost important that the correct firmware file is used for the correct model number. If you attempt to load firmware designed for one model onto a different model in most cases the unit will have to be returned to the factory for repair.
To locate the correct firmware for your model, after clicking on a link above, select the sub folder
with the name of your model. Finally download the zip file which contains the latest version number. The format of the file name is as follows:
<model name>-<firmware version><option>.zip
As an example, the file called IR2140-4572s.zip is firmware for the IR2140 model and is firmware version 4.572.
3) Extract all the files from the zip file you downloaded to the SAME FOLDER on your PC.
4) Close all other programs running on your PC.
5) Run the "FlashWriter" program you installed in step 1.
6) Locate a free IP address on your network and program it into Flashwriter via the "Set Remote TFTP IP address" entry in the "Advanced" menu. Note this IP address must be on the same subnet as your PC and must not be in use by any other hosts on your network.
7) The TFTP firmware load takes place via Ethernet. However Flashwriter can establish initial contact with the router either via the serial port or via Ethernet. The Ethernet option is provided because it is more convenient, but please note that the Ethernet option does not work in all circumstances:
- Some older products do not support Ethernet
- Some older boot loaders do not support Ethernet
- If the firmware on the unit is badly corrupted, Ethernet may not work
If you choose to establish initial contact via Ethernet, skip this step:
Connect the asynchronous serial port of the router to a free communications port on your PC via RS232 straight-through serial cable.
8) Connect LAN 0 of the router to your Ethernet network, unless the model appears in the list below, in which case use the specified LAN port:
Model Port Number
VC7400 LAN 4
VC5100 LAN 1
MW3520 LAN 1
9) If you are establishing initial contact via serial port (recommended), in FlashWriter, select the correct communications port in the "Communications port number/Interface" drop down list. If you are establishing initial contact via Ethernet, select "Eth" as the "Communications port number/Interface" which is the last entry in the drop down list.
10) On the main Flashwriter screen, ensure that:
- The configure only check box is NOT ticked
- The use event driven mode check box IS ticked
- The use Xmodem 1K is NOT ticked
- The use TFTP check box IS ticked
11) Click the "Load" button. In the case of loading via "Eth", you will be prompted for the serial number of the router you wish to load.
12) After clicking OK and possibly entering the serial number, select the ".all" file you extracted from the zip earlier.
13) Follow any instructions that Flashwriter provides.
