Procedure for loading new firmware on Digi TransPort and Sarian branded units
There are two main methods by which new firmware can be loaded: S/FTP and Flashwriter
The FlashWriter Method
FlashWriter can only be used locally, i.e. a serial and/or Ethernet connection between your PC and the router to be programmed is required. With the FlashWriter method the entire system flash will be overwritten, which means that any configuration will be lost.

The S/FTP Method
The S/FTP method can be used to upgrade firmware on Digi TransPort and Sarian branded units, either locally or remotely. A little more background knowledge is required in order to use the S/FTP method. It is assumed that the user is familiar with the operation of FTP or SFTP client software, and Telnet or SSH client software. When a unit is upgraded via S/FTP its current saved configuration will be retained.
