Introduction This Digi software package includes device drivers for Digi Xe, Xr, EPC/X, C/X and Xem product families. This package also contains Digi's MenuPort Interface (MPI), Port Configuration Utility (PCU) and Digi Port Authority (DPA). 2. Enhancements None 4. Bug Fixes The firmware for our Xr and Xem product families would (under very specific circumstances) sometimes crash if placed under high stress for extended periods. This failure has been addressed with a firmware upgrade. 5. Known Limitations Under UnixWare 7, PCU is no longer an option for confi- guring Digi async ports. You are now able to use "scoad- min serial" or "scoadmin printer" for port configuration. You need to have a minimum OS level of 7.0.1 with ptf7053b or above which is available at ftp://ftp.sco.com/SLS/ptf7053b. If you are at version 7 of the operating system, you need to upgrade to 7.0.1 by applying ftp://ftp.sco.com/Supplements/unixware7/update701. As of Unixware 7.1.0, there are no OS patch requirements. If you MUST use PCU, you can run it from the command line using the option -o. If you use PCU, you MUST NOT use the serial manager as system conflicts can occur. If multiple Xr(PCI) cards are being configured, and the cards support different numbers of ports, make sure the card placement on the PCI bus match the order in which they are configured in MPI. UnixWare 2.x has a bug (fixed by ptf 3181, available for download on the SCO Web site) that prevents the download/DPA/PCU drivers (epc1 and pcx1) from unloading in certain cases. If epc1 and/or pcx1 cannot be unloaded, the user must reboot to affect driver changes made via MPI. If Digi loadable drivers are removed but not re- installed, the user is advised to relink the kernel prior to rebooting the UNIX system. The utilities used to remove a driver from the system do not remove driver references from the file "/etc/conf/cf.d/sdevice". Relinking the kernel causes this file to be rebuilt. The time to perform various stages in the MPI install and - 2 - change process can vary widely depending on when the idbuild for a driver is done. Since the idbuild for a driver cannot be done while the driver is loaded, MPI will do the build at one of three different times: - Driver not loaded - build is done during configuration - Driver was changed while it was loaded and is now being reloaded - build is done during load - Driver was changed while it was loaded and the system is now being rebooted - the build is done during the load that occurs after the boot MPI must be run after pkgadd to install new products. Before the MPI package can be removed from the system, the remove installed products option must be invoked through MPI to remove all configured Digi drivers. At this point, the driver supports PCI initialization using the built in PCI BIOS routines. If the hardware or software does not allow use of the PCI BIOS routines, the board initialization will fail. Executing pkginfo -l on the MPI package will display a message of partially installed pathnames. This message can be ignored. The ditty printer option does not guarantee complete writes of data to slow printer devices unless the tcdrain mechanism is used. For maximum performance of throughput, all of the concen- trators should be evenly divided between the 2 lines. 6. Manual Errata Micro Channel and dscreen are no longer part of this release. Also, EISA adapters, the Avanstar product fam- ily and the T1 Modem Bank are no longer supported, either. Any information in the MPI manual that refer- ences these features should be ignored. All other infor- mation applies to this release. 7. History MPI V4.2.0: Corrected a problem that would not let adapters install on any operating system version lower than UnixWare7 7.1.0.
