RELEASE NOTES R1.09 AccelePort(R) USB driver for Windows 95/98 (c) 1997-1999 Digi International Inc. ======================================================================== Software Driver (Win95) P/N: 40001865B Software Driver (Win98) P/N: 40001850B Source Code P/N: 81000106B Release Notes P/N: 93000337B ======================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION NOTES -- Make sure that you are running a USB-enabled version of Windows. Windows 98 and NT 5.0 both support USB. Not all versions of Windows 95, however, support USB. Support was introduced in Windows 95 OSR2.1, a service release of Windows 95. (Windows 95 OSR2.1 is Windows 95 OSR2 with a patch, USBSUPP.EXE, applied.) Many of the large OEMs are now shipping Windows 95 OSR2.1 with their machines, and members of the Microsoft Developers Network were provided copies. Perhaps the easiest way to find out whether or not you have Windows 95 OSR 2.1 is to open "My Computer," "Control Panel," and then "Add/Remove Programs." If "USB Supplement to OSR2" appears in the list at the bottom of the "Install/Uninstall" tab, then you do indeed have Windows OSR2.1. You may not, however, have the most recent version. To determine whether you do or not, find USBSUPP.EXE on your installation media or USBD.SYS on your hard drive. Right click on the file, select "Properties..." from the pop-up menu, and then select the "Version" tag. If the version indicated is 4.03.1214, you have the latest version as of this writing. (Version 4.03.1212 was buggy and should be avoided.) -- During driver installation, Windows 95 may get confused about the location of the Central Data files. If you get a dialog box reading "The file cdusb.sys on Windows 95 CD-ROM could not be found. Insert Windows 95 CD-ROM into the drive selected below and click OK," be aware that CDUSB.SYS is a Central Data file and is not present on the Windows 95 CD-ROM. You should edit the path (or use the "Browse..." button) to indicate the location of your Central Data installation media. For example, if you are installing from floppy, enter "A:\" or "B:\" as appropriate. If installing from CD-ROM, enter "D:\WIN9X\USB\" (assuming your CD-ROM drive is D). -- You can quickly determine whether or not the driver for your USB serial port server was correctly installed by opening "My Computer," "Control Panel" and then "System." Click on the "Device Manager" tab. At or towards the bottom of the list should be "Universal serial bus controller." When expanded, it should have listed underneath it "AccelePort(R) USB 2/4/8" The COM ports corresponding to the serial ports on the USB-4 will appear under "Ports (COM & LPT)" a bit higher in the same list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NOTES FOR R1.09 The following changes were made to Digi International's AccelePort(R) USB serial port driver since R1.07 (There is no official R1.08 release): 1. Fixed a few Fax/Modem related problems. Known problem: WinFax Pro and Windows CE Services only work on Windows 98, but not Windows 95. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NOTES FOR R1.07 The following changes were made to Digi International's AccelePort(R) USB serial port driver since R1.06: 1. Installation and updating guide for R1.05 o On a machine that never has an early version of CDUSB driver installed, just attach the USB-4 unit, hardware wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation. No reboot is required at the end. o On a machine that has R1.04 of CDUSB driver installed, simply follow the driver update instructions in our software installation/updating booklet. o If R1.03 or an earlier version of CDUSB driver is installed, run the program cleanup.bat on the release diskette. Then update the CDUSB driver as described in our software installation/updating booklet. After the driver is updated, reboot the machine. When the machines comes up, hardware wizard will automatically install COM and LPT ports. No reboot is required at this point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NOTES FOR R1.04 The following changes were made to Central Data's USB serial port server driver since R1.03: 1. Adds support for multiple USB-4 devices 2. COM ports are assigned dynamically. When a USB-4 device is attached, the lowest 4 contiguous COM ports are assigned. For example, if COM1 and COM3 were taken by other devices when a USB-4 device is attached, COM4, COM5, COM6 and COM7 will be assigned to the USB-4 device. If COM1 and COM7 were taken, COM2, COM3, COM4 and COM5 will be assigned. 3. Driver is true Plug-and-Play. COM ports are added when a USB-4 unit is attached, and are removed when a USB-4 unit is detached. 4. Installation and updating guide for R1.04 o On a machine that never has an early version of CDUSB driver installed, just attach the USB-4 unit, hardware wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation. No reboot is required at the end. o If an early version of CDUSB driver has been installed, run the program cleanup.bat on the release diskette. Then update the CDUSB driver as described in our software installation/updating booklet. After the driver is updated, reboot the machine. When the machines comes up, hardware wizard will automatically install 4 COM ports. No reboot is required at this point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELEASE NOTES FOR R1.03 The following changes were made to Central Data's USB serial port server driver since R1.00: 1. Modem auto-detection is now supported. 2. The setup file, CDUSB.INF, was fixed so that serial parameters can be specified for use by HyperTerminal. 3. ClearCommError() now correctly reports the amount of data in the input and output queues. 4. USB read requests are no longer posted when no ports are open. Some USB controller chips can impose a high processor load when there is a pending USB request. 5. Support for Windows 95 was added.
