RELEASE NOTES for Digi Sync 570i 1.0, September 17, 1998 This device driver software provides support for up to 16 Sync 570i ISA or PCI cards on the Solaris Intel operating system, version 2.5.1 or greater. Features: Support for the Solaris Synchronous Serial Interface Spec, version 2.3 Support for the Solaris syncinit, syncloop, and syncstat commands Support for the Solstice X.25 environment Support for SNA environments that conform to the Solaris Synchronous Serial Interface Spec, version 2.3 Support for sharing physical memory addresses and IRQs on ISA adapters Port status utility: dsyncstat Adapter configuration utility: dsync_config On-line Unix Manual pages for dsync_config and dsyncstat and dsync driver Limitations: The bit rate is configurable on each port from 150bps to 5Mbps, however actual throughputs will not always equal the line bit rate. High throughput performance is fairly sensitive to the size of the MRU (Maximum Receive Unit). At line speeds greater than 1000000 bps, MRUs between 1024 and 2060 are recommended. The maximum MRU available is 2060. When using external clocking on line speeds below 1200bps, it may be beneficial for user applications or protocol modules to use the syncinit utility or S_IOCSETMODE ioctl to set the estimated bit rate on the port. (e.g. syncinit dsync0 600) This is to ensure an appropriate transmission timeout interval for large packets. Use with other products: The Digi Sync 570i driver conforms to the API definition in the Sun Synchronous Drivers Interface Specification, version 2.3. Many applications and protocol packages have been written to conform to the API in this specification, and Sun Microsystems uses this specification for builtin serial synchronous ports on their servers. See the Solaris manual pages on zsh and se_hdlc for more information on other drivers that conform to this specification. Protocol packages will need to use the /dev/dsync devices to use the Digi Sync 570i adapter, and will need to be configured accordingly. For instance, in order to add the Digi Sync 570i driver to the device pick list in Sunsoft Solstice for Server Connect X.25 package, one would do the following, prior to configuring X.25 with the x25tool program. Make a backup copy of the file /etc/opt/SUNWconn/x25/boardconf. Edit the /etc/opt/SUNWconn/x25/boardconf and add these lines: WAN_DEVICE device /dev/dsync symbolic DIGI lines 4 mru 2060 comment Digi Sync 570i Adapter The mru of 2060 is large enough to allow for 2048-byte X.25 packets. For other configuration issues with Solstice X.25 or other protocol packages, see the documentation supplied with those packages. Copyright 1998 Digi International (PN 93000313A)
