Release Notes 93000236-G for (RealPort) AIX 4.X Software Package P/N 75000236-G Software Manual P/N 92000235-A Diskette P/N (3.5) AIX 4.1.X Diskette 40001427-G Version 2.4.0.1 AIX 4.2.X/4.3.X Diskette 40001590-C Version 2.4.0.2 09/15/98 NOTE: There are two install diskettes included with this driver. One is for use with AIX 4.1.X and the other is for use with 4.2.X and 4.3.X 1. Bug Fixes. -Fixed a non-functioning autoconfig option with the ttys and printers. Autoconfig controls child status upon boot and start up of the driver -Fixed a problem seen with dial-in/dial-out modems not disconnecting properly. More specifically, the close was not waiting for the close response from the PortServer. -Fixed problem with a bad pointer reference in the ioctl function, that had resulted in a system crash. 2. Known Limitations. -This Driver requires AIX Version 4.1.3 or higher. -Power Management does NOT work with RealPort. If running RealPort, AIX's Power Management must be unconfigured. If not unconfigured, the RealPort driver will disable Power Management. -There exists a severe system conflict with Motorola's model 603 Powerstack, until this is resolved the model 603 is NOT supported. 3. Comments. -For Realport use, all used ports on the PortServer must be set to dev=host, see the Installation Guide and User Manual for more info. 4. Basic Installation. -smit select (Custom Install) and then choose "Install From All Available Software Packages". -Command line "installp -a all" 5. Print Spoolers. -There exists a problem with AIX 4.1.4.0's installation of the printer packages. Look in /var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/smit to see if the files in this directory are missing or size 0. If so, remove all these files and reinstall the printer backend (printers.rte) with a force install. 6. Transparent Print Setup. Make the TTY device, making sure that the TERMINAL type is set and that it matches the term-type set on the terminal itself. Then a node must be created in the /dev/ directory by executing "mknod c ", where is the name chosen for the xprint device, is the TTY's major number, and is the TTY's minor number + 32768. The major/minor numbers can be obtained by executing "ls -l" on the TTY device node, located in the /dev/ directory. A print queue can then be attached to the Transparent Print device by adding a queue to the file in the /dev directory and entering the name of the newly created node. Refer to the RealPort Manual for more information on Transparent Print devices.
