DigiWARE Release Notes 93000159H Digi RealPort SCO OpenServer Release 5.x SCO UNIX System V, Release 3.2v4 SCO UnixWare Release 2.x & 7.x Software Package P/N 75000159H Diskette P/N 40001044H V2.3.0 (3.5") (SCO OpenServer) Diskette P/N 40001130E V2.3.0 (3.5") (UnixWare) 08/15/98 1. Changes Improved performance for running RealPort over a slow speed WAN line such as a 56K DDS, frame relay, ISDN and others. See the section below "Using RealPort over a Slow Speed WAN Link". The ncxadaemon has been rewritten to handle network disconnects and network interruptions better. Support for Digi's multiple window program 'dscreen' (under SCO 3.2.4 and OSR5) has been removed and is no longer supported. The PortServer firmware has been removed from this package and tftpboot is no longer enabled thru the installation scripts. Please refer to the Software Manual for instructions on how to obtain the latest firmware to update the PortServer. For Unixware & SVR4, a utility called ncxaconfig has been added for reconfiguring the PortServer server. Please refer to the Software Manual for more information. 2. Bug Fixes Fixed a problem with the modem control devices that prevented 'cu' to work. A race condition that occured between the daemon and the driver sometimes would make getty or ttymon fail and hang the port. 3. Known Limitations If the network connection is lost between the Realport driver and the PortServer, it may take several minutes before communications can be re-established with the PortServer. 4. Using RealPort over a Slow Speed WAN Link When using RealPort over a Slow Speed WAN Link such as a 56K DDS, Frame Relay or ISDN, it is possible for the driver to saturate the Slow Speed WAN Link very quickly when transmitting a lot of data to the PortServer. (This is most commonly seen when sending multiple printer jobs to different printers configured on the PortServer) This can result in the end user logged onto terminals configured on the PortServer to see very long keyboard echo times. To prevent the driver from saturating the network, an option has been added to the ncxd daemon program which will inform the driver that the PortServer is connected to RealPort over a Slow Speed WAN Link. An example follows: /etc/ncxd -d /dev/cts0 -n -l 56000 The arguments for ncxd are: -d device name of PortServer -n PortServer name or IP address of the PortServer -l line speed in bit per second of WAN Link The daemon is started from the default rc startup scripts. For UNIX System V/386, SCO Open Server : /etc/rc2.d/S86ncxa For SVR4, SCO Unixware, MP-RAS /etc/ncxa/ncxadaemon Digi International DigiWARE Release Notes 93000159H
