INTRODUCTION The RealPort Driver provides Windows 2000 seamless access to serial ports on Digi PortServer or PortServer II products. The Digi PortServer Product family allows Windows 2000 users to attach serial devices (modems, terminals, and printers) to the Ethernet based terminal server. Users can use Windows 2000 RAS, Citrix, dial-out modem pooling applications and terminal server applications such as Point-of-Sale (POS) with the flexibility of terminal server connected devices. The RealPort Driver requires the TCP/IP driver to be installed and properly configured. 2. SUPPORTED PRODUCTS PortServer PortServer II PortServer TS Digi One RealPort EtherLite 2/80/160/162 3. BUG FIXES See HISTORY for details. 4. KNOWN LIMITATIONS Software flow control characters set to the null (0x00) character for the Xon and Xoff character is not supported by the driver. The IOCTL_SERIAL_XOFF_COUNTER is not supported by the driver. 5. ETHERLITE UPGRADE This release of the RealPort Driver does support the EtherLite 2/80/160/162. Note that you have to take some extra steps to use the RealPort software with your EtherLite, if you have previously used the EtherLite driver. A. Uninstall the old EtherLite driver, reboot your system. B. Update the EtherLite firmware using the DGIPSERV utility which is part of this driver package. You can download the latest firmware files from the Digi Support Web site at http://support.digi.com. C. Install the new RealPort Driver. 6. PRINTERS If you are planning to use the RealPort Driver with Serial Printers, you have to reboot the system after the device installation or after renaming ports. This is a known limitation of the Print Spooler which does not detect changes in the list of available ports automatically. 7. HISTORY Version 2.4.34.0 - November 12, 2001 NEW FEATURES The RealPort Driver now supports the PortServer TS, Digi One RealPort, and EtherLite 2/80/160/162 devices. The DGIPSERV utility for the supported EtherLite products allows easy configuration of device parameters and to upgrade the EtherLite's firmware. From this release on, the version numbers for all files have been changed to match the driver version number. BUG FIXES Fixed several printing related issues: - Serial Printing did not work in some cases. - Ports were not displayed in Print Properties. In some cases the RealPort Driver caused Windows 2000 to bugcheck when the IP address or the COM port names were changed. Version 2.3.10 - November 13, 2000 BUG FIXES The RealPort Driver will attempt to reestablish its connection to a PortServer when a loss of its TCP/IP connection is detected. This action will occur for any currently open serial ports without user or application interaction. Previously when the TCP/IP connection was lost, any open serial ports would remain in an error state until they were closed and reopened. This fix makes those steps unnecessary. Version 2.2.1 - September 24, 1999 NEW FEATURES Driver released on the Microsoft® Windows 2000 CD-ROM.
