PC Card to ADD Multi-Link PPP (MLP) Support ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MLP has been added as a new feature to the Digi DataFire GO! Series ISDN/V.34 PC Card. It is currently supported only on the Windows 95 operating system using the Microsoft ISDN Accelerator Pack and Dial-Up Networking. DataFire GO! Series PC Cards not having this feature can be upgraded using the procedure below. ** NOTE ** This procedure only applies if you have previously installed an older version of the DataFire GO! Series PC Card which did NOT have MLP support. If you have a DataFire GO! Series PC Card with MLP support, follow the upgrade instructions Upgrading the DataFire GO! PC Card to UPDATE MLP Support. If you have never used a DataFire GO! Series PC Card before, please go directly to the installation procedure in the User’s Guide This procedure consists of three parts: upgrading the firmware, removing the old drivers, and installing the new drivers. First, identify the current version of firmware using the ATI9 command. This can be entered from HyperTerminal or another communications program configured to use the DataFire GO! Series PC Card COM port. The firmware versions not having MLP are 82000049-A and 82000049-B. These two versions along with any non-MLP beta version of firmware can be upgraded to have MLP using steps 1 through 3 below. Upgrading the Firmware: 1. Insert the disk labeled Digi DataFire GO! Series Firmware rev. C into a floppy drive. Copy Rev_C_Stripped.exe to a temporary directory on your hard drive. Extract the flash upgrade file by running Rev_C_Stripped.exe. The extracted flash upgrade file is called Rev_C_Stripped.rom. 2. Using HyperTerminal or another communications program configured to use the DataFire GO! Series PC Card COM port, reflash the firmware in the card using steps outlined in the User's Guide in section "Upgrading the PC Card". Additional notes include: - The User's Guide defines that a AT%FAPPS command should be used to initiate firmware upgrade. For this specific MLP upgrade, a AT%FBOOT command should be used instead of the AT%FAPPS command. - Make sure your communications program is set for hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control and that you initiate the file upload using "text" or "ASCII" transfer mode. - When prompted for a file to send, select the flash upgrade file Rev_C_Stripped.rom. 3. Restart the communications program and verify the new firmware (version 82000049-C) has been loaded into the DataFire GO! Series PC Card using the ATI9 command. Removing the Old Drivers: 4. From Taskbar, select Start/Settings/Control Panel and double-click Modems icons. 5. Remove all "DATAFIRE_GO!_SERIES_ISDN/V.34" Modem entries. 6. From Taskbar, select Start/Settings/Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs. 7. Select "DataFire" entry and hit Add/Remove button. 8. Hit the Yes button to confirm removal of the selected application. 9. Remove DataFire GO! Series card from PCMCIA socket. Installing the New Drivers: 10. Proceed to the new User's Guide (provided) and perform the Installation Procedure for Windows 95. Upgrading the DataFire GO!
